2016 was Laurents' first season in the Formula Renault 2.0, a series that is considered a stepping stone towards Formula 1, as it takes place on F1 courses.
Only a few days before the start of the season in Spain, things weren't looking too good for the up and coming driver from Stuttgart. During the last test races in Hockenheim, the exhaust pipe ruptured, quite a few planned training sessions had to be canceled and the exhaust system had to be repaired at the last minute before departing for the race weekend.
Underneath the spanish sun, however, Laurents' luck changed. After a radical setup change based on the experiences made during training, Laurents was able to gain the pole position in the last qualifying round after an excellent ride. He was able to transform the pole position into a win in the first race.
But that wasn't all. Laurents took so well to the Circuit de Catalunya that he also finished the second race on the podium.
"I was surprised by the three wins. After all, I only started out in the Formula Renault 2.0 last year, which is why I didn't expect a victory. But the team around my father Oliver Dutt adjusted the auto perfectly to the course - and I gave everything", says the 19-year-old.
All good things come in threes, and Laurents continued his winning streak in the third race - though it was close.
"I heard noises that didn't bode well. I'm glad everything worked out so well.", explains Laurents Hörr after the third victory, which he won with a ruptured exhaust pipe.
ALMATO congratulates Laurents Hörr on his amazing wins and looks forward to a great season.
